MAISON CHANCE: COMMUNITY Impact Campaign
The overview
As part of the 16-member "Red Station" team, I volunteered with Maison Chance, a community center supporting disadvantaged children in Saigon. Over eight weeks, I helped raise over 30 million VND for operations and delivered self-defense training to 15+ children. Tied to our team name, we aimed to create a space where children felt heard, valued, and empowered by teaching critical skills they urgently needed but rarely received.
The development
Initial Assessment (Weeks 1-2): Conducted surveys and interviews with teachers, met with students to understand their real needs and challenges. Through conversations, we identified that personal safety and self-defense were urgent priorities for the children.
Program Design (Week 3): Designed lesson plans, games, and teaching content around the theme "Self-Defense." Created age-appropriate activities including the "5 Fingers Rule," "Swimsuit Zones," and "3-Step Response" taught through movement games, coloring, crafts, and role-playing scenarios.
Fundraising Campaign (Weeks 4-5): Launched a fundraising campaign targeting personal networks, focusing on authentic storytelling to convey why supporting these children mattered.
Teaching & Connection (Weeks 6-7): Delivered training sessions to 15+ children, teaching body boundaries, stranger awareness, and appropriate responses to unsafe situations. Built genuine bonds with students through consistent engagement, playful teaching methods, and emotional presence.
Project Completion (Week 8): Conducted team reflection, documented outcomes, and celebrated the connections we'd built. Children gifted us drawings, handwritten thank-you notes, and shared that they looked forward to our classes each week.
the takeaways
Successfully raised 30,031,705 VND (100.1% of goal), funding school supplies, meals, and operational support for Maison Chance. The campaign also raised community awareness about the organization among potential donors.
Taught 15+ children self defense lessons, helping them understand body boundaries and how to respond to strangers.
Created meaningful bonds with students who remembered lessons, participated enthusiastically, gave us gifts, and expressed that they looked forward to learning because we made it fun.
